Sylvia Jones was born in 1972 in Knokke-Heist. As a child, she was already fascinated by photography. After a classical education she was a portrait photographer for 23 years for clients that reached far beyond Belgium. The artist primarily referred to herself as a portrait photographer. Jones' fashion shots are profoundly focus on simplicity in a mysterious and graphic way, often capturing the model in a positions to mark a form of human representation that seeks naturalness, in contrast to the rigid and artificial representations present on fashion photography. This feature, is constituted by the harmonic and natural distribution of the weight of the model represented. Thus, the figure acquires a character of natural movement both from the front and from the side, also needing a specific base on which to act. In both her commercial assignments and her portrait work, Sylvia’s meticulous approach and penetrating gaze sought to capture the essence of each unique subject and moment in time.
